Rajkumar Rizvi was born in Mandawa in the Rajasthan province of India. He belongs to a musical family and was trained by his father, Ustad Noor Mohammed of the Kalawant Gharana. This particular school comprised of a family of singers, composers and creators of ragas who traditionally performed for royalty. He became an accomplished singer at the age of eight and later learned to play the sitar from Ustad Jamaluddin Bharatiam, a disciple of Ravi Shankar. By age twelve, he was already performing alongside his father in court, as well as on All India Radio. Despite his strong classical background, Rajkumar found that his real interest lay more in romantic ghazals which he executed with consummate sweetness while retaining his classical timbre. Rajkumar has toured extensively in Hong Kong, Russia, England, the U.S.A and Canada.
